Custom Pup

More showing off! This adorable puppy commissioned a custom head harness and paws set so he could have some puppy-kitty time with his ladyfriend, Princess Kitten. The harness was inspired by this older model of harness, but it's totally unique- the muzzle, gag (hidden from view), and furry straps were all specified by the customer.

I'm now making all head harnesses in with faux leather straps for a much more satisfying fit and feel. I've also switched over to heavy duty hardware meant for bio-horse tack and bio-dog collars. For this piece, I sewed the faux fur trim directly on top of the faux leather straps and riveted on a couple of long floppy ears for maximum cuteness.

The muzzle was an especially new one for me. I usually use rubber animals noses like in the first edition piggie harness, but this harness was about being adorable, not necessarily humiliation. So I sewed a little faux leather nose and hand-stitched it to a faux fur muzzle I had sewn and lined with polar fleece. It snaps in place right above the bone bit-gag, also detachable. I am a huge fan of gags- the bit-style in particular for the extra drool-factor. And what better gag for a puppy than a bone?

The Fox and the Hound

One of the fun commissions I received recently was for two sets of paws and furry shorts (with tails!) for a fellow who goes by the name Pakkun. One set was for a cartoon fox and the other set was for a dog.

Did you miss me?

I'm still alive and I'm playing catch up! I moved out of my tiny temporary studio and I finally have the full set-up in my new permanent residence in Oakland, California. Over the next few weeks I'll be updating the website and posting on the blog more regularly.

If you haven't seen the photos from the New Designers' Fetish Fashion Show yet, please drop everything and go look at them on the fashion show's official site. For some more detailed commentary on my favorite selected photos from the lot, check out my Deviant Art page.

The show was back in February at the Fetish Fair Fleamarket in my favorite town Providence, Rhode Island. I got to see my dearest friends and eat my favorite restaurants and, for the first time, experience the Flea as an attendee instead of as a vendor. I had a really wonderful time. The show was definitely the highlight of the weekend. The theme for my three-piece collection was Service Animals and included a Police Pony, an Army Doberman, and a Firefighter Dalmatian. My talented models were Conrad, Faye, and Q. They did a really fabulous job! My next few posts will be about the commissions I've been working on. I've had to take on fewer commissions than usual because of the move, but I still have a steady stream of work and there are a few pieces that I'd like to share with you. Stay tuned!

I'd Tap That

One of the ways I keep on task in my studio is to listen to something playing in the background. I listen to radio programs, audio books, and most recently I've been enjoying podcasts like Kink on Tap. Kink on Tap is a very smart discussion-based podcast about sex, gender and kink. It's run by two people I'm proud to call my friends: Maymay and Emma.

The format is loose. May and Emma invite guests to come talk about their own work and thoughts on matters of sexuality and then they all have a rousing discussion, full of tangents, intermittently steered by a few pre-selected questions usually about current events. If I weren't otherwise occupied I might get frustrated with the long, rambling nature of the show. When I sit down and listen to a radio program or podcast I tend to like structure- maybe a little overview of what to expect and when, with quick summaries along the way. With Kink on Tap, I get an idea of what will be discussed in each episode from its brief description, but once it gets started I'm just along for the ride. Thankfully I have kinky animal costumes to keep me blissfully unruffled by the lack of structure. After each episode I go back and check out the links in the description (and in each episode's accompanying wiki page) and I'm oftentimes introduced to new websites, blogs, companies, organizations, and issues that I would not have otherwise been aware of.

Kink On Tap is such a marvelously chatty thing to listen to- I imagine the hosts sitting at a bar with their guests sharing pints. But that would be quite the bar: May broadcasts from the left coast, Emma from the right, and guests anywhere in between or beyond. If I wanted I could listen to the cast live and join the buzz in the chat room, posing questions to the guests and hosts in real time. I choose instead to listen to the published podcasts as they appear in iTunes and enjoy them at my sewing machine. And in my imagination I'm eavesdropping on some very smart people at the next table in our continent-stretching bar, talking about sex.

More Cats, More Hats

The theme of honoring a beloved pet with a matching hat continues! And it's for another Sam, believe it or not.

Sam sent me photos of her dearly departed cat Topanga and I made her a hat inspired by the cat's unique coloration. The result was a bit more calico than Topanga, but it came out well and looks super cute on Sam. Don't you agree?

Further Confusion

As a brand new resident of the San Francisco Bay Area, I couldn't help but take advantage of my proximity to Further Confusion, the annual San Jose furry extravaganza. This past Saturday I drove down to San Jose to see what all the fuss was about.

We got to the show just in time to catch the parade, which was a perfect way to start the day. Then I got a chance to cruise around the Dealers' Room and ogle all the furry art. I bought this print from Thornwolf, whose work I've admired for a long time. I also got to say hi to the folks at BunnyWarez and see their work in person. Seemed like there was plenty of furry porn and leather collars and I even saw a booth selling amazing dragon dildos. And by dragon dildos I don't mean dildos shaped like cute little dragons, I mean dildos styled to look like actual dragon cock! This makes me think that Wolf Princess Designs might do well at an event like this and I'm planning on applying to vend there next year.

I didn't see any classes and the panel that I went to about dragons was pretty dull, so I can't say much about the programming- except for the dessert buffet that appeared at one point which was pretty awesome! The highlight for me was viewing the art in the Dealers' Room and silent auction and seeing the range of costumes. There were creatures of all species, shapes, and colors and some of them were rather inspiring. Everyone looked like they were having a great time- lots of smiles and hugs everywhere!

I'll end this post with some of my favorite costumes:

This puppy was the cutest thing- a hands-and-knees design that looked absolutely adorable toddling around the convention (photo by Pup Ajax).

I developed a particular fondness for this well-dressed hare (this photo also by Pup Ajax).

But the quadruped razorback stole the show- incredible!

Cat and Mouse

I just received two fabulous photos from a customer that I have to share with you, not because the white fluffy kitten set I made for her came out so well (although it did), but because of how much fun she's having with it:

Look at that sneaky smile! Now there's a cat who knows how to have a good time. What you can't see in the picture are the ten sharp metal claws at the tips of her paws- that mouse doesn't stand a chance!

An Udderly A-moo-sing Commission

Apologies for the bad puns- I'm really milking the cow theme.

This was a fun commission I just completed for Neoclassic, a darling cow girl. She's just starting to explore her cow persona so we came up with a few key costume components to get her into cow space: a headband with soft ears and vinyl horns, a collar with a tiny vintage cow-bell, and an adjustable elastic belt with a shapely cow tail on it.

I met up with her at a class and play party the other night at The Water Hole Custom Leather, which is a really great space. Buck, owner of the Water Hole, creates some truly incredible tack for human ponies and the building houses his studio and the playspace. One of my favorite parts of the evening was walking through the leather studio and ogling the sewing machines! Of course the other highlight of the evening was meeting Neoclassic, handing her the costume in person, and getting to see her in it. She looked fantastic!

Raider's Puppy Suit

Yesterday I sent Raider the Pup home with a suit he and I have been working on for a long time now. It's the first full suit commission I've ever done and I'm really pleased with the result.

Raider has been a long-time customer of mine and it's always such a pleasure working with him. He was gracious enough to let me use these photos we snapped of him in the finished suit and the cute factor is beyond description!

We started with a swatch of supersoft honey-colored faux fur and an inspirational image:

From that, I created costume sketches:

And used those sketches to make the pattern for the final suit.

The hood is separate, lined in polar fleece and secured under the chin with two snaps. In traditional fursuit fashion (if fursuiting techniques can be considered traditional), the tail is held on with a belt under the suit for maximum wagging and minimum sagging. The suit zips down the front and there's a flap just below it that snaps on and off for easy access.

Both the fore and hind paws are lined with soft polar fleece. I chose to make the paw pads in vinyl so they would hold up to some abuse. The vinyl is easily wiped clean and will stay looking nice far longer than fur or polar fleece.

I don't know about you, but I'm really excited about the Where the Wild Things Are movie. I'm also always excited to see fursuits in the vanilla world, so you can understand my being doubly thrilled to see this article my dad (he knows me well) sent me about how director Spike Jonze commissioned a collection of Wild-Thing-style garments for the opening ceremony inspired by the book by Maurice Sendak. From what I can tell, all of the pieces are vegan.

Of course, the Max Suit is my favorite piece from the collection:

Tabling: Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health

On Saturday I tabled at the grand opening for the Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health, a nonprofit sexual resource center started by friend of mine, Megan Andelloux. Banned from their headquarters in Pawtucket, the opening celebration was held in Providence RI- read the full story here.

Similar to my setup at Kink For All Boston, my table featured pet food bowls full of NOMZ. I picked out human food that resembled pet food and I guess I did too good of a job- hardly anyone helped themselves to my treats! Oh well... at least the table looked snazzy:

Pet Sounds

So I’ve been listening to a lot of country music lately- maybe it’s because these days I feel like these folks are singing to me. They remind me that love is the most important thing, they assure me that I’m better off without all my ex-boyfriends, they console me about not having much money, and yesterday they sang to me about taking a human pet for a walk. Yeah so maybe that’s not what Brad Paisley had in mind when he was writing his song Ticks, (from his 2008 album 5th Gear) but we kinksters tend to find perverse pleasure in even the purest of places. I was driving to the hardware store, listening to CAT Country 98.1 when I heard the lyrics:

I’d like to kiss you
Way back in the sticks
I’d like to walk you through a field of wildflowers
And check you for ticks.

I smiled to myself and imagined taking my puppy out for a little adventure on a bright afternoon. It may seem like a bit of a stretch, but give it a listen with that image in mind. Paisley’s singing about taking his partner for a walk and grooming her afterward- tell me that’s not puppy love. Plus look at that mischievous smile in the video! Priceless.

There are a few other songs that give me this same feeling. They are explicitly about a human with a non-human companion and they toe the line between familial and romantic love. There seem to be quite a few songs out there about people being animal-like in bed, like Bloodhound Gang’s Bad Touch (featuring the artists dressed as monkeys), Nine Inch Nails’ Closer, (featuring Trent Reznor tied up and blindfolded) and The Cure’s The Lovecats (featuring band members in cat costumes), but songs with a human/animal relationship theme are a bit more elusive.

The first one that comes to mind is Nellie McKay’s Dog Song from her 2004 album Get Away From Me. I love how she incorporates panting and paw-steps into her performance, and the lyrics suggest she and her dog are soul mates, eternal companions, and (I perversely extrapolate) lovers:

I said woof, be mine
And you gave a wail
And then I was no longer alone
And I was no more a boozer
We'll make the happiest home

I also remembered the Eels song My Beloved Monster from their 1996 album Beautiful Freak. This one reminds me of a friend of mine, Heliotrope. She’s not a puppy or a kitty cat- she’s a monster. Perhaps a little monster. Maybe even a pet monster. But a monster. This song is about having a girlfriend who is a creature:

My beloved monster is tough
If she wants she will destroy you
But if you lay her down for a kiss
Her little heart, it could explode

And it’s probably one of the sweetest songs ever. Rawr!

Lastly, my favorite song with this obscure theme is Caitlin Cary’s Pony from her 2001 album While You Weren’t Looking. I think you’ll know why this is my favorite as soon as you read these lyrics:

My baby, he’s a pony
He’s the one who loves me only
My baby is the only one
My pony

This is clearly a love story about a girl and her pony. And the song features catchy, percussive hand-clapping which makes it an automatic winner in my book.

I’m certainly not a music buff, and there are probably many more songs out there about human/creature relationships that I’ve not heard. What songs remind you of pet play?

Wolf Princess at the Kink Academy

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of shooting a couple videos with Princess Kali for her newest project The Kink Academy. If you haven't visited The Kink Academy, definitely check it out. It's an educational pay-site full of video-lessons on a wide range of kinky subjects by folks who really know what they're talking about.

Altogether too many of the BDSM or sex-related websites (even the "educational" ones) I've found myself wading through are poorly laid out, heavy on cliched or raunchy imagery, and lacking in any semblance of professionalism. Those sites confuse, alienate, and turn off many potential customers and it's just bad business practice. The Kink Academy is everything an educational kink site should be- clean, visually appealing, easy to navigate, and welcoming to folks of all preferences, interests, and skill-levels. It's a pay-site I'd proudly pay for.

That said, I was flattered to be asked to do a mini-lesson for the site- I called it Introduction to Pet Play: What Kind of Animal Are you? I did a quick overview of what pet-play is, then I gave personality profiles and play ideas for the three most popular pets: puppies, kitties, and ponies.

In addition to that video, I also shot a 12-minute promo video for Wolf Princess Designs, which is available for non-members to view:

You can probably tell from the video I was feeling kind of shy (what else is new?) and it was a challenge for me to be on camera, but it gets easier each time I do it and I want to work towards feeling comfortable giving presentations. Kali was very encouraging and I hope to shoot some more videos for The Kink Academy soon. Right now I'm developing two classes: one about Kitten Play and one about how to make nutritious vegetarian dog food for your human puppy. If you have any ideas for me or words of encouragement, please send them my way!

Furry Underthings

I'm very excited to show off these new pieces commissioned by Conrad at The Floating World. We originally met the Boston Fetish Fair Fleamarket and he was a little caught off guard but also intrigued by all the sexy furry things in my booth. When he approached me at my booth at The Floating World, I could tell he'd been thinking about what kind of sexy furry outfits he might like. He requested a furry bikini top to go with the brown puppy strap-on harness he purchased for a friend and he also wanted a furry jock-strap with a removable pouch in front. I was very excited to be presented with such a fun, challenging order.

Here's the completed string bikini top:

The fur is a nice, thick, realistic mink-style fur. A steel ring holds the piece together in the front and the elastic straps are secured through grommets (look closely- they're hard to see amidst all the fur) and tied around the neck and behind the back. The cut is actually very small and when worn, the piece will have a great cleavage effect and the polar fleece lining will be soft against the skin.

The jockstrap took a bit more engineering- lots of snaps and fasteners. This the front and back:

As requested, the pouch in front has hidden snaps for a surprise costume change (shown below). It's held in place by a series of adjustable straps of nylon webbing that show off the ass in that classic sexy jockstrap way.

Here's a detail of how the codpiece can be removed for the full reveal:

On the left, the codpiece has been partially unsnapped and on the right, it's been completely removed. Underneath is a nitrile cock-ring held in place by straps of webbing and can also be unsnapped and removed. A very daring look- maybe if I'm lucky he'll send me a photo ;)

Black Puppy Ears: a new regular feature?

One of the Floating World commissions I received came out so well I'd like to feature it regularly as a stock product on the Wolf Princess website. Xani wanted a pair of black ears for her puppy boy. He doesn't have enough hair for the clip-on style of ears and the elastic headband style seemed more appropriate for puppy rough-housing anyway. Though they didn't photograph too well, the ears had a nice shape to them:

I had been meaning to add the staple pair of black puppy ears to my line, but it was important that they weren't just another pair of the standard limp floppy ears. I wanted my take on puppy ears to be a bit more sculptural and playful. I think we've found a winner- let me know if you agree.

Back from The Floating World and a Foxy Commission

The Floating World was our best event yet! Got a great response from folks who stopped by the booth, saw lots of old friends and made lots of new ones. I even got to spend a little time in the dungeon with my sweetie. All in all, a successful weekend.

One of the people I had the pleasure of meeting was loli. She had on a lovely REAL fox tail and commissioned a pair of ears and cuffs to match it. I had a little faux fur leftover from a coyote commission that looked like it would match perfectly- hopefully she'll send us over a photo of the set with her tail so we can see how good the match really is.

Enid, my loyal mannequin, models the clip-on ears. Having no hair to clip the ears into, she wears them clipped to a headband.

Since Enid doesn't have wrists, I had to take the modeling of the cuffs upon myself. The cuffs are lined with soft polar fleece and the d-clips are riveted in place. They're laced with a loop-edge ribbon.

These will be in the mail tomorrow- let's hope she likes them as much as I do!

A Satyr to Faun Over

I just finished up a satyr set for my good friend Q. You might know him from the 2009 New Designers' Fashion Show photos, modeling the Cowboy Pony harness set. The costume is for Burning Man in a couple weeks and I hope he doesn't mind me saying, he's going to look so adorable prancing around in this set:

The ears and horns are on an adjustable elastic headband and they're attached to sliders so he can position them however he wants.

We went with a casual look for the pants with sweat-style waistband and cuffs. Satyrs are all about hedonistic decadence, so it seems entirely appropriate that they would also want to be ultra-comfortable.

Countdown to Floating World

I've got a busy week ahead of me, so it seemed like a good place to start this blog- right in the middle of the action. I'll be spending these next eight days in my studio, feverishly preparing for vending at The Floating World next weekend. I'll also be finishing up custom projects, taking photos, updating the website, and adding new products to the line.

My plan is for this blog to show everything the Wolf Princess website can't- photos of works in progress, ideas for new products, product testing, my accounts of the different events we attend, and my own musings on animal role-play and kink in general. And I'm looking forward to getting your feedback and hearing your ideas for what direction we should be taking as we start to expand.
